Switch Connections from Legacy to Modern Authentication

Due to the deprecation of legacy authentication by Microsoft on November 27, 2025, anyone using this type of authentication for Destinations, Sources, and Search Catalogs will need to configure their Connections to use Modern Authentication instead.

Prerequisites

In order to utilize Modern Authentication, you will need to create an App Registration for KnowledgeLake inside of Azure Active Directory. To do so:

1. Follow the Registering KnowledgeLake in Azure Active Directory article.
2. Ensure that when configured, the App Registration contains AllSites.Manage, AllSites.Read, AllSites.Write, Sites.Search.All, TermStore.ReadWrite.All permissions.

Configuring Modern Authentication

1. Access your KnowledgeLake Tenant using an account with permissions to the Connections App.
   1. You'll know you have access if you can see Connections.
      
2. You will need your Application Registration information to proceed with the next steps.
   1. You'll need the following information:
      1. Client ID
      2. Client Secret (if applicable)
      3. Tenant ID

NOTE: The following steps will need to be completed for every Destinations, Source, and Search Catalog that is currently using Legacy Authentication.

For Destinations

1. Edit the Destination by clicking on the Edit Button.
2. Select the Modern Authentication button.
3. Paste your Client ID into the Azure AD Application ID box.
4. Paste your Client Secret into the Azure AD Client Secret box.
5. Paste your Tenant ID into the Primary Domain box.
   1. Alternatively, you can use your domain like: DomainName.onmicrosoft.com; DomainName.com; etc.
6. Click on Grant Access and confirm that it has authenticated successfully.
   1. 
7. Click Next Page.
8. The Wizard will Sync your Content Types.
   
9. On the Foldering Options and File Name Options screens, you may leave the configuration as is.
10. The Wizard will confirm that you would like to complete modifying the Destination.
    
11. Finally, click on Save to complete the transition to Modern Authentication

For Sources

1. Repeat the same steps as described above in the Destinations Section
2. You will see a Syncing Schema
   
3. 
4. Click Save

For Search Catalogs

1. Repeat the same steps as described above in the Destinations Section.
   1. You will see a Syncing Search Properties.
      
   2. Click Save.
